Five teenage suspects now in custody for Magda van Vuuren murder

Port Elizabeth police have arrested another two teenage boys in connection with Monday's hijacking and murder of 53 year-old local resident Magda van Vuuren.

This brings to 5 the number of learners arrested in connection with the crime. Colonel Priscilla Naidoo says the latest suspects, aged 15 and 16, were arrested at about two o'clock on Tuesday afternoon at the Westview High School in the city which they attend.

The arrests were carried out by Mount Road visible policing unit members.

Van Vuuren was visiting her mother in Adcockvale on Monday afternoon when she was shot in the back by a young schoolboy in uniform. He then drove off in her old boxer-type BMW. Van Vuuren died a short while later in Livingstone Hospital.

A 16 year old boy and a 15 year old girl were arrested in Van Vuuren's BMW at around 7.30pm on Monday when it was spotted by police at a petrol station in Bluewater Bay.

A 15 year-old boy was arrested overnight in Zwide where police also recovered a licensed firearm.

Colonel Naidoo says the four boys and the girl will remain in custody and will make their first court appearance together in the juvenile court at the Nerina Place of Safety and Detention in Port Elizabeth on Thursday.
