Port Elizabeth police have arrested five suspects for the possession of cigarettes valued at R180 000.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Nkohli Majola, says police received information about a robbery in progress on the N2 near Thornhill on Thursday.
Majola says a British American Tobacco truck was forced off the road by a white bakkie.
One of the suspect's pointed a firearm at the truck driver and the suspects then proceeded to load 100 boxes of cigarettes onto the open bakkie and into a Sedan.
A short while later a police chopper spotted both vehicles on the Rocklands Road traveling towards Uitenhage.
Police are investigating a case of robbery and possession of stolen property.
The suspects are due to appear in court on Monday.
