Five people have died in a head-on collision on the R75 between Kariega and Graaff- Reinet.
Provincial Traffic spokesperson Unathi Binqose says the accident happened on Thursday afternoon near Wolwefontein.
He says a Toyota Prado with four occupants collided with a VW Jetta, also with four occupants.
Binqose says upon impact the cars overturned and caught alight.
He says three men and one female passenger in the Jetta burnt beyond recognition while a female passenger in the Prado also died.
Two men and another woman managed to crawl out of the Prado sustaining serious injuries.
One patient was rushed to the Sunday's Valley Hospital in Kirkwood while two others were transported to Cuyler Hospital in Kariega.
The names of the victims are not yet known and an case of culpable homicide has been opened.
