Five people have been killed and nine injured following a single-vehicle accident on the Satansnek Pass on the R58.
A spokesperson for Provincial Traffic Unathi Binqose says the accident happened at 8.30 on Tuesday morning on the road between Engcobo and Khowa, formerly Elliot.
He says the driver of a VW Sprinter with 14 occupants was travelling from Rustenburg to Mthatha when he lost control of the vehicle and overturned.
Binqose says among the deceased were a two-month-old boy, three women and an adult male.
He says the injured passengers were transported to various hospitals in the area.
The cause of the accident will form part of a culpable homicide investigation.
The driver escaped unharmed.
