At least five people were killed in two separate accidents on Eastern Cape roads on Christmas Day.
The provincial transport department says four people were killed when a VW Polo collided head-on with a bakkie on R61 in Cofimvaba on Saturday evening.
Spokesperson, Unathi Binqose says earlier in the day, a man believed to be an Eastern Cape government official, was killed in a head-on collision on the N2 near Qunu.
He says the victim was alone in the state vehicle when it collided with an SUV.
The two occupants of the SUV were rushed to hospital with serious injuries.
Police are investigating cases of culpable homicide.
