Five people were killed in a head-on-collision on R408 between Willowvale and Dutywa in the Eastern Cape late on Saturday afternoon.
The Provincial Traffic Department says a man and a woman in a Toyota Tazz were travelling in the direction heading of Willowvale when it collided with a Toyota Avanza with six occupants.
It says both people in the Tazz, as well as a man and two women from the Avanza were declared dead at the scene.
The injured were taken to Butterworth Hospital for further medical care.
The Department says it is alleged that driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding were the main contributing factors in the accident.
Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
