Five family members gunned down in Lusikisiki village

A manhunt has been launched by police in the Eastern Cape after five family members were gunned down in their homestead in Lusikisiki

Police spokesperson Brigadier Thembinkosi Kinana says the incident happened at 1 am on Tuesday morning.

He says police were alerted to the shooting incident after a community member heard several gunshots.

Brigadier Kinana says when police arrived on the scene they found five relatives aged between nine and 78 years old who sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

He says two children, aged one and eight, managed to escape unharmed.

A 72-hour activation plan has been ordered by the Acting Provincial police commissioner to bring those responsible to book.

The motive is not yet known and the names of the deceased are being withheld until next of kin are informed.
