An Eastern Cape doctor accused in a tax fraud matter has been granted bail of R5000 after appearing in the Mthatha Specialised Commercial Crimes Court.
Dr Anele Mani was arrested by the Hawks last month for allegedly contravening the Tax Administration Act between 2009 and 2013.
Hawks Eastern Cape spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, said it’s alleged that Dr Mani had “under-declared” in his VAT and Personal Income Tax returns.
She said this led to SARS being prejudiced of more than R880 000.
The 52-year-old appeared in court on Tuesday and the matter was postponed to 6 April.
