Five alleged hijackers were arrested in Port Elizabeth on Monday night in two unrelated incidents.
Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says one of the suspects is a teenager who was caught driving a VW Polo which was hijacked in Commercial Road in Sidwell earlier the same evening.
She says the VW Polo was spotted by members in Cape Road, travelling towards Kabega Park, and the driver was pulled over on the corners of Cape Road and Cotswold Avenue.
Police arrested the teenager and confiscated a toy gun.
Captain Janse van Rensburg says the other arrests took place in Central when police spotted four suspects in a Datsun Go that had been hijacked in the Humewood area.
She says the four suspects, between the ages of 27 and 37, were arrested for being in possession of a stolen vehicle and other suspected stolen goods.
During the arrests, police confiscated a gas pistol, six cellphones, gloves and two leather wallets.
Captain Janse van Rensburg says the owner of the Datsun Go used his vehicle as an e-hailing taxi service and told police he was hijacked in Rink Street where he picked up two of the suspects who posed as clients.
She says they threatened the driver with a gun and ordered him to drive to Sundridge Park where they tied him up and placed him on the back seat of the car.
It is alleged that they drove the car to Coega where the driver was kicked out of his vehicle.
The four men are expected to appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrates Court this week while the teenager will appear in the Nerina House Juvenile court.
