A 37 year-old fisherman has died of a suspected heart attack at sea off St Francis Bay.
NSRI St Francis Bay Station commander Paul Hurley says they were alerted early this morning that a fisherman was experiencing breathing difficulties on the Chokka fishing boat SANTO MERSCK.
The NSRI launched its sea rescue craft SPIRIT OF ST FRANCIS II and rendezvoused with the Chokka boat 1 nautical mile off-shore.
NSRI medics found the patient breathless and with no pulse and began emergency CPR.
In rough seas, it was decided to leave the patient on-board the Chokka boat which headed into the Port of St Francis where Private Care paramedics took over the resuscitation efforts.
All efforts proved fruitless, however, and the man was declared dead on the scene.
