Fish River Sun closing doors after 28-years

One of the Eastern Cape's most popular holiday resorts is closing its doors.

Algoa FM News received confirmation on Tuesday that the Fish River Sun Resort will be shutting down at the end of November this year.

It's a massive blow to the 130 staff of the Fish River Sun, many of whom have been working at the resort since it opened its doors 28 years ago.

A number of contractors, including security companies and the landscapers looking after the gardens and the Gary Player Design championship golf course, will also be affected.

A communique sent out by hotel management on Tuesday advises Fish River Sun guests of the closure and that bookings made after that date are regrettably being cancelled.

It says the closure of the resort is regrettably unavoidable given the recent land claim, which Sun International lost,  difficult trading conditions and the escalating costs in this matter

The Resort says there will be a full reimbursement made of bookings.

Here is the full statement issued by Sun International
