First winter snowfalls expected over EC this week

The PE branch of the SA Weather Service says colder and wet conditions with the first winter snowfalls and rough seas are expected for the rest of the week.

Weather office spokesperson, Garth Sampson, issued the following advisory.

Weather for the Eastern Cape:

Monday 01/06/2015:

It will be generally cloudy with light rain this morning. Heavier falls, in the form of showers, are expected this afternoon and overnight with localized flooding in places along Garden Route up to and including Port Elizabeth

Tuesday 02/06/2015:

It will be cloudy with intermittent rain. Heavier rain showers are expected towards evening over western half of the Easter Cape (areas to the west of Port Elizabeth)
Little to no rain expected over former Transkei region

Wednesday 03/06/2015:

We can expect strong North Westerly winds over the interior. This will be accompanied by scattered showers and thundershowers over the entire Eastern Cape region

Thursday 04/06/2015:

It will be cloudy and cold with rain and showers. Strong to gale force South-South Westerly winds are expected along the coast and adjacent interior, moderating later in the afternoon
Heavier showers and thundershowers are expected in places between Port Elizabeth and East London, which can result in localized flooding.

The first major disruptive snowfalls of the year are expected overnight over the northern interior.

Due to strong Southerly winds, a spring high tide and a long southerly fetch, high seas with wave heights exceeding 6m are expected along the southern coast up to Port Alfred. These conditions can lead to destructive waves along the aforementioned coastline. Friday

Friday 05/06/2015:

It will generally start clearing from the west, although there will still be some rain along the Wild Coast
