The first phase of improving security in the area between Wilderness and Victoria Bay in the Southern Cape has been completed.
This follows several attacks on tourists walking near the railway between Leentjiesklip and Vic Bay.
The area is a popular hiking trail for locals and foreign visitors.
In the most recent incident last month, a man and a woman were attacked with a panga.
Police members, the George municipality and the Wilderness Ratepayers and Residents Association recently held a series of meetings.
Signboards warning visitors that they are entering a high mugging area, have now been erected.
Councillor Leon van Wyk says the next phase will be to introduce additional walking trails.
One of the victims in January's panga attack, Alistair Hill, took to social media to share his ordeal and warn fellow tourists.
