Damage to 11 luxury homes at a residential estate on the banks of the Cefani River outside East London, is expected to run into million of rands.
Algoa FM News has learnt that fire fighters from three stations in the Amathole District Municipality have brought the blaze under control and are busy damping down.
The fire was apparently detected at around 9am on Friday morning and was fueled by strong winds.
An eye witness said that the homes, which apparently range from R4m upwards, were reduced to hollow shells.
It's understood that some of the houses were occupied but others were holiday homes.
