Cacadu and Blue Crane District Disaster Management are battling veld fires on two fronts in the mountains north of Somerset East.
They're been assisted by members of the Fire Protection Association at Swaershoek, local farmers and their farm workers.
Eastern Cape Umbrella Fire Protection Association spokesperson Thinus Botha says the fires flared up on Sunday night after being fanned by gale force winds.
He says the crews will be concentrating their efforts on the Glen Avon area near the Somerset East dam and at Driefontein towards the R63.
Botha says more then 3500 hectares of grazing land have already been destroyed by the fires which are now burning into a seventh day.
