Fire fighters are continuing to fight a run-away fire in the Garden Route National Park Saturday.
However, SanParks spokesperson, Nandi Mgwadlamba, said the 10mm of rain whichfell Friday did bring some relief.
She said the Park planning manager, Len du Plessis, reported that 4000ha offynbos had been destroyed.
Mgwadlamba said the fire started on private land on Monday and jumped intothe National Park in the vicinity of the Craggs at Plettenberg Bay, north of the N2.
She sid fire-fighting teams were mopping up and fighting fires at the sametime.
Two Oryx helicopters from the SA National Defense Force were also assistingthe firefighting teams.
Mgwadlamba said there were still 120 fire fighters working in 12 hourshifts.
She said they are are concerned about the South easterly winds predicted for Sunday.
A Joint Operating Center (JOC) was established where the FPS, Southern Cape FPA (SCFPA), SANParks, MTO, Bitou Municipality, Local Fire authorities from Askop Crags and Plett South FMUs, the Provincial Disaster Management Center (PDMC), SANDF, Working on fire and volunteers are coordinating resources and strategies towards fighting the fire.
