Eastern Cape roads have claimed at least seven lives in three separate car accidents over the weekend.
Provincial traffic spokesperson, Charles Bramwell, says five people were killed in a head-on collision between a mini-bus taxi and SUV near Kokstad on Saturday morning.
He said the deceased were two men and three women.
Their identities are not yet known.
Bramwell said that one person died in hospital after the driver of a Toyota Fortuner lost control of the vehicle and it overturned.
He said the injured passenger died later in hospital.
In another accident Saturday, Bramwell said that a Toyota Quantum overturned on the R-58 between Barkley East and Elliott.
One person died and 13 others were seriously injured.
