Firefighters watch over raging fire in Oudtshoorn

Firefighters are keeping a watchful eye over a raging veld fire in the Paardebond area of Oudtshoorn that has been burning since Saturday.

The fire got out of control at one stage on Wednesday as the flames were fueled by extreme heat and strong winds.

Five hundred ostriches from the farm Saffraanrivier had to be removed in order to save them from the blaze.

Game on the farm is however still trapped while the whole of Oudtshoorn was covered in dense smoke.
