AfriForum Youth has declared a dispute with the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, after it came to light that the Department wants to change the language policy of the Grootfontein Agricultural College in the Eastern Cape from 2016. The plan is to abolish Afrikaans and to change it to an English college.
Henk Maree, National Chairperson of AfriForum Youth, says they strongly oppose the planned change and have already consulted their legal team.
He said they've asked for an urgent meeting with the Department, and that no further steps be taken before the dispute is resolved.
The branch of the youth organisation at the Grootfontein College at Middelburg in the Great Karoo has at least 100 members which represents about 50 % of the total student community.
