Firefighters from Working On Fire and the Mossel Bay Municipality continued to battle a raging veld fire in the Hartenbos Heuwels area.
Municipal spokesperson Rowena Hendricks said the areas of greatest concern were between Menkenkop and Seemeeupark and the area behind Sonskynvallei up to the Welbedagt Road.
She said two houses have been destroyed and a firefighter injured.
The municipality has not issued any official evacuation orders but scores of residents have since moved their pets and the elderly to safety.
Hendricks said learners from Sonskynvallei were being accommodated at the Hartenbos Primary School's aftercare facility for obvious safety reasons.
The R328 between Mossel Bay and Oudtshoorn was still closed to traffic late on Monday afternoon.
ANA reports that George Municipality and the Garden Route District Municipality sent crews to assist.
The fire has since been contained.
