PORT ELIZABETH, January 10 (ANA) – Two Port Elizabeth brothers who allegedly instructed a 12-year-old boy to light a fire cracker which later exploded in his face, were released on bail of R500 each in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Sebastian and Demane Pillay appeared in court briefly flanked by Warrant Officer November stationed at Humewood police station.
The Pillays are facing charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and are being represented by well known Port Elizabeth attorney Alwyn Griebenow who was attending to another matter in East London.
According to the charge sheet the brother’s allegedly instructed 12-year-old Sheldon Witbooi to light a cracker.
According to police the incident happened during the early hours of Sunday morning.
Magistrate Shanjani Naidoo instructed the pair not to initiate direct or indirect contact with State witnesses Witbooi and Brendan Olivier.
The State did not oppose bail and the brother’s were seen laughing and covering their faces when leaving the court building.
The case was postponed until March 13 for further investigation.
