Firearm and drugs seized in anti-crime operations in PE

Port Elizabeth Anti-Gang Unit members swooped on a ‘spaza’ shop in Stofile Street in Kwazakele on Monday night and seized a 9mm pistol and 33 rounds of ammunition.

Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the firearm and the ammunition were found hidden in the door panels in the shop.

Ownership of the weapon is yet to be determined and it will be sent to ballistics for analysis.

No arrests were made and an enquiry docket has been opened for further investigation.

Colonel Naidu says that in an unrelated incident, police members acted on information and confiscated cocaine, tik and mandrax at a house in Elizabeth Street in Extension 28, Bethelsdorp.

A total of 20 packets of cocaine, 60 packets of tik, 26 mandrax tablets, and a small amount of cash were seized.

The estimated value of the drugs is R7650.

Colonel Naidu says the drugs were allegedly thrown over the wall into a neighbour’s yard and that no arrests were made.
