A 33-year-old man made his first appearance in the Humansdorp Magistrate's Court on Monday in connection with the murder of his heavily pregnant wife.
Police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender, said Rizaan Shinaaz was remanded in custody until 7 January.
He was arrested at the scene on Friday morning on the N2 at the Gamtoos River bridge after the body of his 33-year-old wife Zaida was found.
She was about eight months pregnant at the time of her death.
Govender said in an earlier statement that a truck driver traveling from Port Elizabeth to Jeffreys Bay in the early hours of Friday morning saw a blue sedan in the road with both front doors open.
She said stopped and went to investigate. There was no one in the vehicle and after noticing traces of blood alerted the police.
