Eight informal homes were destroyed in a blaze that swept through Qolweni township on the outskirts of Plettenberg Bay.
The fire broke out at about 3am on Wednesday and according to Otto Olivier from Plett Security, who was on the scene, it spread very quickly.
Local firefighters had their work cut out for them, but managed to limit the devastation to eight shacks.
"No one was injured," Olivier said.
He added the cause of the fire was still unknown.
This is a massive blow to residents of Qolweni who had to rely on each other and the community for support after two fires destroyed about 30 shacks in July last year.
The affected families lost everything and only had the clothes left they had on at the time of the disaster.
