A fifth person, who was seriously injured in the blast and fire at a Middelburg factory a week ago, has died in Port Elizabeth's Dora Nginza Hospital.
Eastern Cape Health Department spokesperson, Sizwe Kupelo, says a woman died on Tuesday, barely 24 hours after John Barendse also succumbed to his wounds.
Kupelo says doctors and nurses are doing all in their power to treat the patients successfully.
At least 20 people were admitted to the Port Elizabeth hospital, after more than 30 workers at Rolfe Laboratories in Middelburg were injured in the blast at the aerosol factory.
Kupelo told Algoa FM News that many of the patients suffered burn wounds to the face and head, while others might have also suffered internal injuries.
