Eastern Cape police say Operation Fiela continues to make inroads in the fight against drug related crimes in the Nelson Mandela area.
Provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Sibongile Soci, says five suspects were arrested in a weekend operation for dealing in and being in possession of drugs and suspected stolen property.
She says police seized various drugs like Tik and Mandrax, valued at around R50 000, while an undisclosed amount of cash was also confiscated during the operation.
Three firearms and and a magazine with 18 rounds of live ammunition were also recovered.
Soci says during Operation Fiela 155 people were searched while 44 vehicles were stopped and searched.
She says high visibility operations were also conducted in Mthatha as well as Uitenhage where several arrests were made.
Soci says the SAPS in the Eastern Cape remains determined to keep communities safe from criminals.
