The Chairperson for the Portfolio Committee on Justice and Correctional Services has asked for a detailed report from Management at the Leeuwkop prison where a warder was found dead this week.
Committee Chairperson Bulelani Magwanishe expressed his shock and sadness following the death of the 50-year-old warder who was reportedly raped and strangled to death.
The official was working at a Medium A Covid isolation site at the time of her death.
The warder, who worked for the Department for 32-years was found dead on the floor in the prison on Tuesday.
According to an initial report her jacket was covered in blood and a blood-stained towel was found in the vicinity.
