Nelson Mandela Bay police are investigating a case of armed robbery after a motorist was pulled out of his vehicle and robbed at gunpoint on Tuesday.
Captain Gerda Swart says the incident happened at 3 pm on the Old Uitenhage Road on the R334.
She says two men pretending to have car trouble were pushing their red Opel Kadett inside the yellow line of the road when the complainant and passenger approached them.
They then pushed the Kadett into the road forcing the approaching motorist to an abrupt halt.
Captain Swart says three suspects appeared from the bushes and joined the men pushing the Kadett.
She says two of the five were armed and forced the complainant and his passenger out of the car and into the bushes where they were tied up.
The suspects took their bank cards and cell phones.
Three of the gang left to draw money while the other two waited with the victims until their accomplices returned.
Captain Swart says when they got back, they left the victims in the bushes and fled in their car.
The complainant waited until they were gone and then walked to the road to seek help.
Police have since issued a warning to members of the public to be on the lookout for suspicious or unusual behaviour on the side of the road.
Captain Swart says even though it is noble to have good intentions and help someone, it is safer to rather alert authorities.
She says criminals who want to rob motorists always have a decoy to get their victims to stop.
