A 31-year-old female officer from Gqeberha's Anti-gang Unit will appear in court on Thursday on a charge of murder, related to the death of a colleague.
Hawks Eastern Cape spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, says she was arrested this week.
Mgolodela says the officer's arrest relates to an incident on the 17th of June when a colleague was shot in the abdomen while in the back of an official police car with two other colleagues.
She said the incident happened after the three members returned to their vehicle after searching two men.
Mgolodela says as they drove off a shot was heard and it was then established that he was wounded in the stomach.
He was rushed to the hospital but died on arrival.
