A 46-year-old suspect will appear in the New Law Courts in Gqeberha on Monday for allegedly dealing in faux gemstones.
Faux gemstones, also known as "fantasy bling" are made out of synthetic gem materials and therefore fake.
Hawks spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela says a victim came forward claiming that the suspect sold him these fake gemstones in March this year for which he forked out R40 000.
She says it is suspected that the suspect is part of a syndicate operating in Gqeberha, that targets innocent unsuspecting individuals by enticing them to either buy the stones or be part of the syndicate.
The Hawks spotted the suspect on Saturday and made an immediate arrest.
Captain Mgolodela has appealed to anybody who may have been part of the scam to contact the Investigation officer, WO Scholtz on 082 303 0477.
