A 40-year-old Ethiopian man and two of his children have died after a fire broke out at his house in Maletswai.
Police spokesperson Captain Ursula Roelofse says two police officers put their lives on the line when the fire broke out in the early hours of Saturday morning.
She says Constable Siyabonga Tabane and Constable Florince Nwabisa responded to the fire in Hunt Street and had to climb over a devil's fork fence and break windows to try and get into the house.
Captain Roelofse says they managed to rescue a mother, nanny and three children but the father was trapped inside.
She says the 12-year-old son died on the scene and his two-year-old sister died on arrival at hospital.
The cause of the fire is not yet known and an inquest docket has been opened for further investigation.
