A 71-year- old Kirkwood man and his 11-year-old son sustained gunshot wounds during a robbery at their home in Kirkwood during the early hours of Saturday morning.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said the family was asleep in their home in the Madikeni Township, in Dunbrody when the owner woke up to a knock at the door at around 2.45 am.
She said he opened after a person outside said they were police officials. Naidu said the homeowner was confronted by four men and a woman, who were reportedly wearing police uniforms.
She said the man was handcuffed and had sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Detectives were still probing the circumstances relating to the wounding of the 11-year-old boy who also sustained a gunshot wound to his abdomen. They were both rushed to hospital for treatment.
Naidu said it is not yet known what was taken from the house, but she said the VW Polo used by the suspects was found in Kwadesi in Gqeberha.
SAPS Kirkwood detectives are investigating two cases of attempted murder and a house robbery.
