A meeting will be held on Monday to determine whether or not the 2020 SA National Lifesaving Championship, scheduled to take place in Port Elizabeth next week, will go ahead amid precautionary measures relating to COVID-19.
The Director of Sport for Lifesaving South Africa, Craig van Rooyen told Algoa FM News that following the postponement of the Ironman African Championship, which was scheduled for the end of this month in Nelson Mandela Bay, it was decided to call the meeting.
"I can confirm that no final decisions have been made with regards to the Lifesaving champs. At this point, everything is under discussion. We have not officially cancelled the event, and will be meeting with city officials in various departments, as well as the organising committee on Monday at 12 pm", he said.
The championship event is set to take place from Thursday 19 March until Wednesday 25 March, with the surf events at Kings Beach Surf Lifesaving Club and the pool events at Newton Park Swimming pool.
