The Farlam Commission of Inquiry is hoping to continue as planned next week, following an attack on the lawyer for the miners' advocate Dali Mpofu.
He is recovering in hospital after being stabbed during a robbery while walking on a beach in East London.
The assailants are still at large.
The spokesperson for the Farlam Commission, Tshepo Mahlangu, says they are engaging the legal teams where Mpofu works.
He said options are being explored that include the possibility of Mpofu's team putting someone else in his place while he recovers.
Mahlangu says the work of the Commission must continue.
He also said that the Commission did not see a link between its work and the attack on Mpofu.
"The motive for this occurrence is plain robbery. There is no information up until now to suggest any link with the dealings of the commission. We must keep it as that until confirmed otherwise" Mahlangu said.
