Family tied up in yet another Gqeberha home invasion

A Nelson Mandela Bay security firm says a Mount Pleasant family’s calmness in the face of danger, and following orders, was a life-saving decision during a home invasion earlier on Thursday.

Atlas Security says in a posting on its Facebook page that it responded to the scene along with other role players after a panic signal was received from a home in Gladys Road in Mount Pleasant.

The family was found traumatised but uninjured and the crime scene was secured and handed over to the SA Police Services for further investigation.

It was established that three suspects had entered the house through an unlocked back door at 7.20 am and tied up the victims before demanding the whereabouts of the safe.

Two of the intruders were brandishing firearms and the third was armed with a knife.

After tying up the couple and their three grown-up daughters, they ransacked the house.

According to police, they were unable to break open the safe and thus removed it from the wall.

The suspects, whose faces were covered with balaclava's fled with the safe, six cell phones and bank cards in a VW Polo.

The safe contained jewellery and an undisclosed amount of cash.
