A 21-year-old Eastern Cape woman charged with kidnapping a toddler at Kirkwood will make her second appearance in the local Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
Veronique Willemse has been in custody since her arrest in Knysna on the 16th of August when police also found the missing child.
The toddler was last seen on the 4th of August playing outside her home in Bergsig.
According to an initial report from local police, Willemse was a person of interest throughout the investigation.
Investigators initially suspected that Willemse was hiding in the Addo area and photographs of both her and the child were circulated on social media.
The search for the toddler had a positive outcome when the K9 unit finally tracked them down in Knysna.
Willemse was transported back to the Eastern Cape and is expected to apply for bail during Friday’s court proceedings.
The motive for the kidnapping is not yet known.
