Police in the OR District municipality in the Eastern Cape have launched a 72-hour activation plan to catch the suspects who killed three family members in their home in Mqanduli.
Spokesperson Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana says according to their preliminary investigation, two unidentified suspects arrived at the homestead and knocked on the main house where the family was relaxing.
He says when the family did not open, the suspects forced their way into the house and started shooting the son who was next to the door.
Brigadier Kinana says they proceeded to kill the mother and aunt who were with him in the house.
The victims, aged between 27 and 61 died at the scene.
The suspects disappeared into the village.
The motive for the killings is unknown.
