Eastern Cape police have made a swift arrest following a gruesome murder in Elliotdale on Christmas day.
Spokesperson for the Provincial Commissioner Brigadier Tembinkosi Kikana says the 18-year-old victim and the suspect were visiting their grandmother in a nearby village on Tuesday.
According to police information, the suspect was seen with bloodstains on his clothes by a neighbour, who alerted the community.
Kinana says the 25-year-old suspect fled into the forest but was arrested at about 7 pm on Wednesday evening where he was hiding in a nearby village.
Police applauded the community and family members who apprehended the suspect.
He was handed over to police and will appear in court on Friday.
The motive for the murder is still unknown at this stage.
