Family left traumatized in early morning house robbery in Gqeberha

A Gqeberha family has been left traumatised following a house robbery in Sundridge Park.

The 46-year-old man left the house shortly after 7 am on Tuesday with his two young children on their way to a school holiday camp when three armed suspects accosted him on his property.

Police Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the robbers proceeded to tie up the entire family with cable ties before ransacking the house in Stella Londt Drive.

She says they stole two safes, phones and laptops, jewellery and other household items before fleeing in the victim's white Hyundai Atos.

Colonel Naidu says a swift response by police and a private security company resulted in the arrest of all three suspects.

She says at about 10 am members from the District Crime Combatting Unit, Gqeberha K9 Unit and a private security guard, after receiving information swooped in on a house in Nolulamo Street in Joe Slovo.

Two suspects were found in the living room trying to open the safe while a third suspect was found hiding in the ceiling.

One suspect (age unknown) was found hiding in the ceiling. A .38 revolver was recovered. The Anti-Gang Unit and SAPS Mount Road members also provided back-up for their colleagues.

Police recovered the stolen property and a .38 revolver and 9mm pistol.

The stolen vehicle was recovered in bushes on the Old Uitenhage Road.

The suspects are expected to appear in court soon and are detained on charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, house robbery and possession of suspected stolen property.

Colonel Naidu says the suspects will be profiled to see if they could be linked to other house robberies in the area.
