A Gqeberha man who allegedly stole a BMX worth R10 000 from a bicycle rack on a car has been detained.
Police Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the 20-year-old Marco Witbooi allegedly stole the bike on the 27th of June from a car parked at a residence in Lorraine.
He was arrested in his shack at the Madiba Village (Piet se Bos), nearly a week after the bike was stolen.
Colonel Naidu says he then went to a Caltex garage in Circular Drive to pump the tyres.
She says he was caught on CCTV camera and information was followed up.
The BMX was recovered at a scrapyard in Walmer.
The scrapyard owner gave a statement that he bought the bike from Witbooi, who sprayed the bike black.
