Walmer Park shopping centre in Port Elizabeth was evacuated on Saturday after an emergency evacuation alarm was activated.
In a statement, Centre management said “at approximately 12h12 this morning the emergency evacuation alarm was activated at Walmer Park Shopping Centre.”
“The centre went into the Emergency Procedure protocol in line with the procedures in place when an alarm of this nature is activated. The centre was evacuated,” the statement said.
“Once it had been ascertained that this was a false alarm, the centre was declared safe for store owners and customers to return to the centre and commence with trading.”
Walmer Park apologized for the “inconvenience caused.’
