Police in Uitenhage arrested three men for reporting a false hijacking case on Friday.
Police Spokesperson Sergeant Majola Nkholi says a few hours after the report was made they found the damaged truck stocked full of alcohol, abandoned near Wolwefontein.
Nkohli says it is believed that the truck driver and his assistant conspired with a tavern owner from Kirkwood, before setting the truck alight.
The suspects between the ages of 22 and 54 will appear in court on Monday and more arrests are expected to be made.
The men will be charged with perjury, theft and malicious damage to property.
