Fake notes found in East London

Fake bank notes used in a scam whereby paper "magically" turns into money -- have been found at an East London beach.

Police spokesperson, Captain Steven Marais, says a young child found a heap of photo-copied money bundled into piles of 100-rand notes at Leaches Bay on Wednesday.

There were blank papers in between the fake notes.

Marais says it is likely that the money had been used in a scam.

He says criminals would approach people, particularly the elderly, and promise them that if they handed over their money, they could increase or even double the amount.

Once people have handed over the money, the con artists disappear.
