Dozens arrested in East London crime fighting operation

Fifty people were arrested during a Christmas crime prevention operation in Mdantsane, East London.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Nkosikho Mzuku, says the operation on Tuesday and Wednesday, involved patrols, raids at illegal shebeens and road blocks.
Mzuko says the arrests helped in bringing crime levels down, and they wil be planning a similar operation for next week's new year festivities.
Meanwhile Police in East London have arrested a Zimbabwean national for the possession of suspected stolen goods.
Spokesperson, Captain Stephen Marais, says they were investigating a car theft last night, when they received a report that the occupants of the stolen car were involved in a housebreaking in Dorchester Heights.
Two of the occupants fled after a high speed chase and police arrested the driver and recovered a stolen TV, even before the owner reported the theft.
