Fairview racecourse- not a single horse was euthanized

SAPS

Port Elizabeth police have confirmed that a 49-year-old man was detained on charges of public violence following the chaos at Fairview race-course on Thursday morning.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, says the man was detained by Kabega Park police and will appear in court soon.

Earlier on Thursday a protest by employees who are engaged in a dispute with a local trainer released 28 horses from the stables.

Luciano Passerini of Phumelela Gaming confirmed one animal died, possibly from a broken neck.

He says other horses were treated for injuries that included cuts, adding that no animals were put down.

The National Council of SPCA's also said it would be laying charges.
