Eskom in the Eastern Cape has initiated its emergency preparedness protocol due to the alert of extreme weather conditions that will affect the province this weekend.
Provincial spokesperson for Eskom Ntosh Mafumbatha said there are areas that will be affected areas which are prone to snow and this included Aliwal North, Queenstown and areas around Ngcobo.
Mafumbatha said they were also looking across the entire province so that they could be ready “for anything that could impact the electricity infrastructure negatively”.
She said Eskom technicians were already on standby and they have put strategies into place to deal with any eventuality.
“Customers are urged to be on the lookout for any possible damages to electricity infrastructure that may result in low hanging conductors. Please report these to Eskom contact centre 0860037566,” said Mafumbata.
