EPRU players give ultimatum (watch)

A group of 15 EP Kings rugby players presented an ultimatum to EP Rugby Union President Cheeky Watson today amidst heated exchanges at the Union's headquarters at Imatu House.

The Police were called in at one stage and were seen entering Watson's office, shortly after the meeting began.

Representatives of nine clubs were also on hand to show their support to the players after presenting the Union with their own petition last week.

A scuffle broke out when EPRU security tried to prevent a representative from Rhodes Rugby Club from entering the premises.

The meeting between Cheeky Watson and the players lasted more than an hour and a half.

Scrumhalf Kevin Luiters addressed the media afterwards on behalf of his team mates.

He said they'd resolved not to train or practice until a special Annual General Meeting is called to address four key issues:

Some other issues in the petition included the following:

1.)    An irrevocable pledge by EPRU and SARU that all players outstanding salaries and benefits are fully paid up or before the 18th of December 2015
2.)    A vote by member clubs in favour, or not in favour of the current EPRU executive Committee on or before the 12th of December 2015.
3.)    Credible and competent rugby turnaround specialists be permitted to present proposals of a sustainable funding model in association with the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan              Municipality on or before the 11th of December 2015
4.)    A vote of confidence by the EPRU clubs in the new proposal and administration and management leadership to take place on or before Saturday the 12th of December.
