Newborn baby cries for help hours after being dumped in bushes

A newborn baby found in a bushy area in Mossel Bay on Sunday morning is being monitored at the Provincial Hospital.

Community members of the Informal Settlement, Ezidlovini  heard the baby’s cries after which three men started searching  through the bushes and made the discovery.

The newborn’s umbilical cord was still attached and she was partly covered in a placenta.

It is suspected that the baby was wrapped in a plastic bag after she was born and then thrown into the bushes. It seems as if the plastic bag was caught in a tree after which the baby fell to the ground.

Bystanders wrapped the girl in a blanket and an ambulance took her to the local hospital.

The identity of the baby's mother remains unknown.

A case of the child abandonment is being investigated by the Mossel Bay Family Violence , Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
