The registered owner of the Enyobeni tavern in East London appeared in the city's magistrate's court on Friday alongside her husband.
The National Prosecuting Authority says 43-year-old Vuyokazi Ndevu was added to the case of her husband, Siyakwamkela, the manager of the Scenery Park tavern where 21 young people died in June.
NPA spokesperson Luxolo Tyali says they were both charged with "selling or supplying intoxicating liquor to persons under the age of 18 years," and "conniving with and permitting employees and agents to sell or deliver intoxicating liquor to persons under the age of 18 years."
He said the matter was postponed to 05 October 2022 for a pre-trial conference.
Another leg of the case relates to the release of the toxicology report concluded by health experts and which is still under investigation by the police.
"The NPA awaits a docket from the police, before deciding on possible further charges," Tyali said.
He said the NPA remained committed to a victim-centered approach in dealing with the case and that they will engage with the police to ensure that the matter proceeds swiftly and effectively.
