Engcobo's ability to respond to disasters, accidents and fire incidents will be given a shot in the arm on Tuesday.
That's when Eastern Cape Local Government and Traditional Affairs MEC, Mlibo Qoboshiyane opens a local Fire Station in the town.
The fire station will service both rural and urban communities, including small towns in the area.
The department says in a statement that "the construction of the facility will ensure an accelerated response to fire incidents, and thereby reduce the number of fatalities and the severity of damage caused by fire to infrastructure and the environment."
It says "the fire station will also serve as a center for continuous community fire safety, and awareness campaigns for local residents."
